Vertical Slice


Welcome back nerds and gamers!

We are proud to announce that the project has reached a critical milestone: the Vertical Slice. This means the game is around 50% complete and can demonstrate the core loop, features and gameplay. There is plenty to talk about so lets get straight into it!


New Features:

Since the prototype, a couple of new things have been added to the game. Namely LOOT. Now players can collect brand new weapons (Shotgun and charge rifle), some new combat chips to upgrade their mech with (Currently only hack) at the end of each run.

Along with these new chips, 3 status effects have been added to the game:

1: Fire, set enemies on fire to inflict damage over time.

2: Hack, hacked enemies suffer from increased critical chance

3: Short circuit,  trigger this status to briefly stun enemies, stopping their movement and abilities for a moment


Programming:

Some code refactoring has happened since the initial prototype, making 3 core areas easier to work with and more modular. The player scripts, the enemy behaviors and level generation. A complete overhaul happened on the former two, bringing their code into a much more refined state, and the latter got a little attention making it more malleable for creating specific railroaded encounters.


Art: 

There has been a complete art pass on the environment, updating vfx, textures, lighting and UI making the game feel much more moody and real. Extra decorations have been added to the levels to sell the scale of the game as well.
