An update from Jacob the artist :D


Haiiii,
My name is Jacob and I am one of the two artists on Build A Bot. My main roles are as follows:
-Art direction
-Animation
-VFX -Lighting
-Character Modeling

Since the last devlog we have done a TON of work on the games art, let's talk visuals!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the Christmas period a major visual pass was done by myself. The goal of this pass was to make the game feel grounded and polished. The first step was to pull the player's focus onto only the playable areas of the game. So I blacked out the out of bounds areas. Then the lighting was updated, the approach i took to the lighting was imagining this room did have a roof, and placing the lighting there in a realistic manor. Lastly the system termed as the “Directional Upper Walls” was implemented. Essentially this means the walls on the top half of the screen are taller, as they do not impede on the player's visual space.

A keen eyed viewer may have also noticed the UI style and layout has been updated as well. After much back and forth, we have finally landed on a UI style and layout which players really like :D

Additionally the debris from enemies and environment has been dialled up and lasts the entire length of the room. Really giving the player the satisfaction of causing chaos!!!!!

Next, the most fun part of my work has been the player weapons. Currently there are 7 unique weapons (See Figure 4). Each weapon is unique in both visual design and gameplay design. Each weapon has the following animations: 
 -Spawn
-Idle
-Fire
-Reload


Lastly, just before I sign off here are some cool promotional materials I created for the game, these were very fun to make.
